Look for plants that prefer a well drained soil, consider using mainly
indigenous and water wise plants. Plant species that are suited to
your existing climate and soil conditions are preferable, this way
your garden has the greatest chance of survival. Unless, of course,
you have a insatiable desire for a tropical garden in the desert.
You can improve sandy soil with compost - mix 2 parts mature
compost and 1 part clay soil, as well as slow release organic fertilizer
and use in the ratio prescribed by the manufacturer
