If you are planning to buy something for the home then
Clarence offers a lot of variety and unique items not
usually seen in big city shops. There are quite a few art
galleries in town, and you do not have to buy to be
inspired by the many local art pieces on exhibition.
They don't call Clarens the "jewel of the Freestate" or "little
Italy" for nothing, as the Maluti Mountains is not only the
perfect backdrop to the town, but also offers beautiful
mountain walks and outdoor leisure activities. For the
more serious outdoor fanatic the town hosts the
Surrender hill Marathon, Incredible horseback riding, and
even a spot of golf.
Although the town is over 100 year's old as it was
established in 1912 its heritage scene of one of its first
inhabitants, Khoisan Hunter gatherers shown on the
town's rock art is estimated to be over 2000 years old.
And the town's Dinosaur tour also proves of prehistoric
life in the town billions of years ago.
