As one group ends a wonderful journey
the next one begins. The Part-time
standard class built their very first
garden at Plantland Menlyn. Plantland
Menlyn was added as the 3rd Plantland
branch to display Irene School of
Garden Design show gardens to the
public towards the end of 2017 after the
success of the first two branches. The
garden was built by Mientjie v.d. Vyver
and Werner Liebenberg.
With one year behind us and a new
year pregnant with possibility ahead of
us, Virére magazine could not resist the
temptations to give a small snippet
reminder of the 9 gardens built in 2017.
Photographer Winifred Harms had a
feast taking photographs of all the
gardens and it was a tremendous task
to co-ordinate all the students and
materials. Each garden build takes
approximately 3 days to complete, and
teams worked from dusk till dawn to
move plants to site, and construct the
displays. At times students were all
extremely tired, dirty and wet, but
nothing is as precious as seeing a
garden coming into reality from just
the ideas of their designers. It is the
"magic" of seeing something of the
creator in the end result that makes it
all worthwhile.
