Over a decade in the making, the spectacular 16 hectare Mulligatawny Gardens is
one of the most beautiful private gardens in Gauteng. Purchased in 2002 by
Michael, this derelict piece of land, originally a tobacco farm and then later a flower
farm, was transformed into a magnificent work of exterior art.
Clearing and re-landscaping, removing many alien species like syringas, jacarandas
and poplars, Michael's vision drew inspiration from the great gardens of Europe,
particularly Monet's water gardens at Giverney. Filled with hundreds of varieties of
waterlilies, roses and irises, complemented by sculptures, fruit orchards, grottos,
and follies, this magnificent garden emanates whimsy and romance.
