Dullstroom is a quaint countryside
town that comes alive over weekends,
as locals and tourists flock there to take
in the scenery and relax. A weekend
spent in the quaint fly-fishing town of
Dullstroom
is
almost
certainly
guaranteed to feature plenty of
outdoor adventures, culinary delights
and whisky tasting.
The Dullstroom Inn, the oldest hotel in
this quaint town opened its doors in
1912. The hotel was the first hiding
place of the first Sunday Times`
"Finders Keepers" treasure hunt prize
and it is believed that the cozy fire in
the pub has been burning for over 33
years now, making that a historically
significant occurrence in itself. The
English pub in the hotel is, to this day,
a popular meeting place for locals and
visitors.
While its claim to fame is fly-fishing, it
is significant to note that Dullstroom is
the country's top trout fishing area.
Fishermen come from all over South
Africa to sample the abundance of the
waters and the beautiful trout that
come from these. It is one of the
coldest places in the country and
boasts the highest railway station ever
constructed in South Africa, a
staggering 2 076 metres above sea
level.
