Mpumalanga was on the top of the Virere list in
this issue mostly because of its raw and wonderful
natural experiences. There are so many wonders
to see, and it was quite difficult to isolate only a
few in our visit but Virere magazine suggests
accommodation in the Hazyview area to form a
base for most of the popular excursions. The
perfect family weekend away must include a visit
to the Blyde River Canyon, with its breath-taking
views, the three rondawels, and beautiful
Savannah fauna and flora. Arts and Curios are
plentiful in this area, and if you want a little
memento to remember your experience by, the
Blyde River Canyon stop has the best ones and the
widest selection. Be sure to take some bottled
water and refreshments for breakfast as there are
not any recommendable places to eat, or buy
snacks and drinks. We suggest making this the
furthest attraction from Hazy View, and working
your way back to see the Bourke's luck potholes,
Gods' Window, Pinnacle Rock and the town of
Graskop, where Harry's Pancakes is the most
popular late lunch option. Most people would
prefer to braai at one of the plentiful self-catering
accommodation options, but if the weather is not
on your side, the Rendezvous centre has some of
the best cuisine in Hazyview, and a wide selection
of unusual meats to try.
