Raising awareness of a decaying inner city of
Pretoria, and its inherent potential, WOW!
constructed a temporary, edible installation of
Pretoria. The installation was seen as an event,
where an abstraction of the inner city was
assembled using nougat, chocolate, and layers of
biscuits. Afterwards the audience was invited to
"eat the city" as a metaphorical gesture.
Born out of pure passion and appreciation for design, this
concept factory develops ideas, products, experiences and
installations based on anything from places to events to
food. The topography, architecture, stories and people of
South African cities are all things they value and so their first
product
line
explored
the
cities
of
Cape
Town,
Johannesburg, Pretoria and Bloemfontein.
The core of WOW! is using different approaches of "crafting"
the topography of South African cities. Capturing the
complexity and recognizing patterns of significance, they
prove that cartography and urban form can be made into
utilitarian art. These beautiful products are more than
striking graphics or objects, each an inspired impression and
telling a story of its own.
Pieces are made and produced in Pretoria and offer a range
from vinyl printed table runners, postcards, brooches,
placemats, pop-up cards and even a city-in-a-box. The vinyl
printed or linen fabric cut out table-runners, or as WOW!
likes to call them "conversation pieces", reveal the core of a
metropolitan inspiring you to rediscover and reimagine
South African cities.
