Winifred Harms

Author, Designer, and Indigenous Plant Specialist

“Climb mountains not so that others can see you, but so that you can see the world.”

Winifred Harms is a passionate photographer, garden designer and decorator. Her lifelong passion for garden design and photography inspired her to transition from a legal background to pursue and flourish in design. Winifred started to formally pursue a gardening and photography career in 2012 and completed her studies at the Irene School of Garden Design, after which she designed various residential projects. Her professional eye for detail, colour and design inspired a liminal career in photography, garden design and decorating. As a photographer, Winifred receives local and international acclaim, and she was assistant editor and writer for the Virere online garden and lifestyle publication, along with Lee Burger. Her unique combination of design flair, skill, and contagiously creative character is what naturally made her the most suited candidate to become part of the lecturing team at Irene School of Garden Design. Winifred partly presents the introduction workshops where she enlightens course-goers with design principles, site recommendations, planting design guidelines, and the use of colour and composition in the garden. She also assists with consultations, course material, and the distance learning programs offered by Irene School of Garden Design.
